Hartford Hospital

Hartford Hospital, founded in 1854, is one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals and tertiary care centers in New England. Part of Hartford Healthcare, Hartford Hospital, The Institute of Living and the Bone & Joint Institute share an extensive medical campus with Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Connecticut Children’s Medical Center’s Level 4 NICU with over 500 admissions per year is located within the hospital, and with approximately 4000 deliveries each year, it also is the site for the well newborn experience.

The hospital includes on campus, The Institute of Living (IOL), a 114-bed mental health facility with a national and international reputation for excellence in care, education and research. The IOL houses a CARES unit providing acute inpatient psychiatric treatment to many pediatric patients who present initially to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Emergency Department.

The hospital is home to the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), one of the most-advanced medical simulation training centers in the world. Medical providers from across the world have trained at CESI. The hospital is at the forefront of robotic surgery and was one of the first to use da Vinci surgical robots. Hartford Hospital owns and operates the state’s only air ambulance system, LIFE STAR. This year, Hartford Healthcare opened The Bone & Joint Institute, Connecticut's first and only orthopedic hospital. The hospital garners numerous awards and recognition including being ranked #1 in U.S. News & World Report’s latest Regional Ranking.
